¡¡Bao Guang Pagoda
¡¡¡¡The pagoda is regarded as the inclined tower of the oriental world by its consummate craftsmanship and magnificent shape.The pagoda is the manifestation to both mysterious legend and historical records in Buddhism.The temple has a typical layout of ancient zen Buddhist temple in China,where the pagoda is one part of and in the center of the temple .According to the historical record,after the Sakyamuni Buddha entered in nirvana,in order to spread the teachings of Lord Buddha,the King of Asoka in ancient India had the holy sariras being sent to different parts of the world and established pagodas for worshipping,China obtained nineteen sariras.On the place with holy eight auspiciousness and six wonderfulness constructed a pagoda,it was called Fu . |
| Gan(feeling blessed) Sometimes there was precious light sprung up from the pagoda,it attracted wild cranes to worship.In the late Tang Dynasty,the Emperor Xizong toured to Shu (ancient Sichuan) and was accommodated in Bao Guang Monatery.Once he saw some rays of light rising from the pagoda and ordered to dig,then a stone case was uncovered and thirteen sariras were found.Wu Da,the venerable monk of the temple,asked the emperor for permission to reconstruct the pagoda.With the order of one floor for one sarira,the new pagoda has thirteen floors for thirteen sariras.It is thirty meters high with a golden crown on the top.The new pagoda was called Wu-Gou-Jing-Guang(dirtless and pure lightness),the popular name is Bao Guang (Precious Lightness)Monastery .During more than one thousand years' time,there weren't any grass grew on the body of pagoda and any spider web appeared in pagoda.It is a true dirtless appearance in the world. |
¡¡¡¡Stoned Sarira Pagoda
¡¡¡¡¡¡The pagoda is situated in the chanting hall.It was carved in pierced work with three pieces of huge stone.It has the style of palace with six directions.It is 5.5 meters high and 2 meters in diameter.The sutra and auspicious pictures was engraved on the whole body of the pagoda,the figure of flying dragon was carved on six stone pillars and portrayed to be lifelike.The whole stone pagoda is exquisitely carved and regarded as rare art treasure of the stone inscriptions.It took three famous stone carver of western Sichuan three years to complete the work. |

¡¡¡¡Bronze Sarira Pagoda
¡¡¡¡In thirty years of Emperor Guang_xu in Qing Dynasty,Zhen Xiu ,a venerable monk of the Bao Guang Monastery,paid a pilgrimage to Lanka Mountain in Ceylon.The king of Ceylon was moved by his piousness and presented him five sariras of Skyamuni Buddha .After he went back to China,he represented a black sarira and a white sarira to Bao Guang Monastery.The monastery monks put two sariras into a crystal |
| ball and had it covered with a small gold-plating bronze pagoda.The pagoda is square and one-storied pavilion style.It is 20 centimeters high.The foundation is lotus in shape and decorated with several precious jewels.The body is carved with dragon pillar and flowers.Tere is a record which was inscribed on the horizontal board and show that the sariras were from Sakyamuni Tathagata's real body. |
Three Treasure of the Monastery
¡¡¡¡Sariras
¡¡¡¡When Sakyamuni Buddha entered nirvana,three true fire burned the holy body with boundless merit into 84 000 pieces of Sariras.The Sacrifice Section of Golden Lightness Sutra said,Sariras are nurtured and cultivated by sila and smathi as well as prajina.It is very difficult to obtain and the most precious on the field of blessedness.In order to bless all beings in the world,Bao Guang Monastery keeps the Sakyamuni's sariras preserved in the pagoda open to the pilgrimage and wish the disciplines obtained great merit and Vimukta while seeing. |

¡¡¡¡Pattra_Leaf Scripture¡¡
¡¡¡¡In the 28 years of Emperor Guang_xu in Qing Dynasty;Venerable Zhen Xiu ,the monk of Bao Guang Monastery,visited the kingdom of Siam(Thailand) and paid respectful visit to the King,the King was touched by his manners and presented him a pattra-leaf scripture .Venerable Zhen Xiu gave the scripture to Bao Guang Monastery after he went back to China.The pattra-leaf scripture is Lotus Sutra in Sanskrit version.It is preserved in a sandlewood box with 50 centimeters long,8 centimeters wide and 8 centimeters high.For its long history and preciousness,the scripture is regarded as ONE TREATURE of the monastery.With sariras and utpala together,they are called three treasures to guard the monastery. |

¡¡¡¡Utpala
¡¡¡¡is the blue lotus and means auspicious flower in sanskrit.The flower blossomed every three thousand years.When the flower blossomed,it indicates that a cakravartiraja has been born.The utpala of the monastery is made of bronze and gold.It is 150 centimeters high.The leaves are multi-grown with arrow shape,the arteries and veins of leaves are clear.There are 6 groups of flowers,on each group are there several little flowers in the kettle-like stipule.It is lifelike by the unique crafemanship.When you beat the leaves lightly,the sound of utpala comes out.Originally it was preserved in the Emperor's palace,in 12 years of Emperor Dao-guang of Qing Dynasty ,Miao Sheng ,a zen of Bao Guang Monastery ,went to take the tripitaka in Beijing and was honored to be granted the utpala. |
