ĦĦĦĦThe Arhat Hall in Bao Guang Monastery is the most ancient and the biggest clay sculpture Arhat hall among the four Arhat Halls in China .It is renowned in the world for its fantastical craftsmanship in shape and gesture.The Arhat Hall was constructed in the years of Emperor Xian-feng in Qing Dynasty on the donations collected by Venerable Miao Sheng.The hall has a hundred stone pillars,the structure is compact,the layout is unique..There are four small yards in the hall,the layout likes the letter of Tian.Once you just enter the hall,it would be difficult to recognize the direction.There are 557 statues of Bodhisattavas and Arhats as well as the ancient venerable monks .Each statue is 170 centimeters high.With the statues standing or sitting as well as in different facial appearance ,it reveals the unique craftmanship.The statue of Guan Yin with thousand hands and thousand eyes stands in the center of the hall and 660 centimeters high.The statue faces the four directions.They were carved by Li Guang-xiu and his apprentices,who were the famous craftmen of Sichuan at that time.It took nine years to complete these images which will be handed on from age to age.It is regarded as one peral of sculpture art in oriental world.
